| Sprawling Buds raises climbing wall to national standard | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 09: To make it a national venue of sport climbing competitions, the management of Sprawling Buds School Chinore in Bantalab has increased the height of Tenzing Norgay Climbing wall to 40 ft. Earlier, a 28 ft wall was catering to the needs of local climbers both in practice and state level competitions at the premises of Sprawling Buds School. “In fact, we were approached by the Mountaineering Association of J&K for hosting the North Zone Championship at our school. Accordingly, a team of experts from North Zone Sport Climbing Committee visited the venue recently and found the wall below national standards,” one of the directors of the school, Rahul Sharma told SAN. Giving due importance to extra curricular activities on its campus, the school has invested in building sports infrastructure. “We want our students to excel in sports too. So, a sport climbing wall has been built to improve mental and physical strength of young learners in the school,” said Principal, Pooja Sharma. Now, as suggested by the North Zone Committee to increase the height of the existing 28 ft wall to a national standard of 40 ft and the school acted accordingly. “We don’t want to miss the opportunity of exposure of a national level competition to our students, so we agreed to the proposal and subsequently raised the wall to new heights of 40 ft in the given time,” informed the Principal. The wall has been raised following the guidelines of the Indian Mountaineering Association through an approved supplier of sport climbing infrastructure in the country. “It is an encouraging sign that educational institutions in the state are keen to build own state of the art sports infrastructure. Hope, other schools would follow the precedent set by the Sprawling Buds School,” said general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Dr C L Khajuria when contacted by SAN. “The Association extends all possible help to such institutions, who are interested in building sport climbing infrastructure in J&K,” maintained Dr Khajuria.
