JAMMU, April 09: Department of Law in women section and Law School in men category emerged winners in chess finals of ongoing inter-department sports meet of University of Jammu organised by Campus Sports Committee on the campus, here today.
In the men’s final, Law School trounced Department of Physics and Electronics 2-1. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Law School beat Department of Botany 2-0 while Physics and Electronics outplayed Department of Computer Sciences (MCA) 2-1. Quarterfinals results: Law School got walkover Department of Education; Department of Botany bt Department of Chemistry 1-0; Department of Physics and Electronics got walkover Department of Punjabi; MCA got walkover Department of Zoology.
In the women chess final, Department of Law outplayed Department of Computer Sciences (MCA) 2-0. Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, MCA defeated Department of Physical Education 1-0 while Department of Law downed Department of Chemistry 2-0 (Jyoti bt Pankaj and Surbhi bt Geetanjli).
BADMINTON MEN: In men’s badminton competitions, semifinals line-up has been drawn with the entry of Department of Law, Department of Sociology, Department of Computer Sciences and Law School (MCA) in the last four stages. Quarterfinals results: Law School bt Department of Punjabi 2-0 (Abhik Gupta bt Inder Singh 21-8, 21-9; Gurpreet Singh bt Satinder Singh 21-2, 21-5). MCA bt Department of Physical Education 2-0 (Abhinav bt Sanjeev 21-18, 21-15; Pratual bt Anil 18-21, 21-14, 21-11). Department of Law got walkover Department of Zoology. Department of Sociology bt Department of Physics and Electronics 2-1 (Akeel lost to Jangbahadur Singh 21-18, 17-21, 16-21; Vikram bt Mohit 21-4, 21-4; Vikram Saini and Akash bt Jangbahadur bt Mohit 21-3, 21-8).
BADMINTON WOMEN: In women’s badminton competitions, Law School and Department of Law won their respective matches to move into the next round. The results: Law School bt Department of Computer Sciences (MCA) 2-0 (Rosy Sharma bt Molshree Arora 21-12, 21-14; Mehak Gupta bt Isha Kohli 21-5, 21-7). Department of Law bt Department of Punjabi 2-0 (Jyoti bt Gurvinder Kour 2-15, 21-4; Surbhi bt Gurpreet Kour 21-4, 21-7.
