Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 20: In a landmark move, Jammu Police has successfully attached property worth approximately Rs 2.22 crores under the BNSS Act, in connection with a major fraud case involving Harpreet Singh, who impersonated a Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army to defraud innocent individuals.
The case dates back to November 6, 2024, when Arun Sharma, a resident of Kandoli Nagrota, filed a complaint with Police Station Nagrota, alleging that Harpreet Singh had fraudulently promised jobs in the MES, MOD, and DRDO. Singh duped several individuals, including the complainant, by impersonating a military officer and convincing them to make payments for job placements. The payments were made via bank transfers and in cash, resulting in wrongful gain for Singh and a significant loss for the victims.
A case, FIR No. 293/2024, was registered under various sections of the BNSS Act. The investigation revealed that a total of Rs 2.39 crore was credited to Singh's bank accounts, with a portion of the ill-gotten funds used to purchase a double-story duplex property in Channi Bija, Jammu, valued at Rs 2.22 crore. The property was acquired under an agreement involving Singh's mother, Paramjit Kour, and another individual, Kamaljeet Kour.
Following thorough analysis of financial records and documentation, Jammu Police initiated proceedings for the attachment of the property as proceeds of crime. The application for property attachment was filed before the Hon'ble Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jammu, and the Hon'ble Court, on January 18, 2025, directed the attachment of the property.
On January 20, 2025, the attached property was seized through the office of the Tehsildar Bahu, EMIC, marking a significant step toward ensuring justice for the victims. The case was investigated by Inspector Parvez Sajad, SHO PS Nagrota, under the supervision of Dy. SP Vinod Kundal, SDPO Nagrota, and guidance from Superintendent of Police Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma. Legal support was provided by Sr. PO Altaf Ahmed.
This initiative by Jammu Police showcases their commitment to addressing financial crimes and providing justice to victims. The public is urged to remain vigilant, verify job offers carefully, and report any fraudulent activities to law enforcement authorities promptly.
Jammu Police continues to take strong actions against fraud and scams, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and victims are compensated.
