Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 22: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Poonch organized an awareness program on the 'Swachhta Action Plan' (SAP) at Government Higher Secondary School, Chandak, Block Nangali Sahab Sai Baba, in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The primary objective of the program was to encourage citizens to adopt cleanliness habits. Participants were urged to dispose of waste in a responsible manner and to recognize the urgency of maintaining a clean and green India. Emphasis was placed on rejecting single-use plastic and participating in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign by planting and nurturing saplings. Principal GHSS Chandak, Amil Hussain expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Government of India and CBC for organizing the program in the remote area of Chandak. He reminded the students of their role in maintaining cleanliness and cited examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting their commitment to a cleaner and greener India. He encouraged students to dedicate one hour every week to cleanliness and to protect trees. On the occasion, Naib Tehsildar Chandak, Naseer Choudhary, discussed the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). He spoke about the responsible disposal of waste, waste segregation and the mantra of "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" for effective waste management. Panchayat Secretary, RDD & Panchayati Raj, Chandak-B, Himani Manhas shared insights on the achievements of the Rural Development Department (RDD) in the area. She informed the gathering about the establishment of segregation sheds, composite pits, and soak pits in the panchayats, along with a plastic waste management unit at Chandak. She also highlighted that each panchayat has dedicated segregation sheds and Swachhgrahis to manage waste. Incharge CBC Poonch, Vijay Mattoo emphasized the significance of activities such as Shramdaan (community service), distribution of jute bags and dustbins, and organsing seminars aimed to inspire the youth to contribute to a clean India. He noted that CBC organizes similar programs across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. In addition to the 'Swachhta Pledge' a cleanliness drive was also organized within the school premises, encouraging students, teachers, and locals to contribute to the 'Swachh Vidhalay' (Clean School) initiative. A theme-based dance performance, songs, and a skit were presented by the PRT of CBC J&K, urging the audience to reconsider their daily routines that contribute to pollution. Students also shared their views on cleanliness through speeches. As part of the event, CBC Poonch donated dustbins, brooms, masks, gloves, sanitizers and jute bags to the school. |
