| JKAACL celebrates Mian Deedo Birthday | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10- Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Mian Deedo Memorial Committee celebrated the birthday of Mian Deedo, the great freedom fighter and Hero of the Dogra Region today at K.L. Saigal Hall Prof Lalit Magotra, presided over the function Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir Government, Balraj Puri renowned Journalist and Convenor Mian Deedo Memorial committee, Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy were present in the presidium among other dignitaries. Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister, while speaking on the occasion said that Mian Deedo was a great Dogra Hero who fought and sacrificed his life for the independence of Dogra region. He said that Mian Deedo was not only the freedom fighter but also a social reformer who was loved and respected by the common masses. While describing him the great warrior, he said that Deedo was such popular personalities who become the folk hero among the masses. Prof Lalit Magota, while delivering his presidential address said that Dogra ethos, folk Ballets and other literature reflects the three heroes of Dogra which include Data Ranpath, Bawa Jitto and Mian Deedo. He said that the sacrifice of Rana Ranpath for justice, Bawa Jitto sacrifices his life for freedom of peasants and Mian Deedo sacrificed his life for freedom of the Dogra land. Prof. Latif further told that from next year Dogri Sanstha, Jammu will celebrate the birthday of Mian Deedo. He further said that Dogri Sanstha has worked on life and work of Mian Deedo which is available in book form. He requested and impressed on the need to know about the sacrifice of Mian Deedo through the available literature. Balraj Puri, renowned journalist and Convenor, Mian Deedo celebration committee told that since last many year Mian Deedo Memorial Committee celebrated the birth Anniversary of Mian Deedo at his native place ‘Jagti, a small village near Nagrota but since last year it is celebrated here at K.L. Saigal Hall in collaboration with J&K Cultural Academy. Earlier, Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, while delivering her welcome address recalled the contribution and sacrifice of the grate son of the soil Mian Deedo. She also said that such great heroes should be remembered at large scale at District and Provincial level. The artists who presented Dogri Music and Dogri Folk program include, Rajesh, Vishal Gupta, Bishan Dass, Ghulam Mohd & Party and Krishna Kumari and Parduman Singh.
