Insecure NC leadership encouraging political corruption: Mufti
4/10/2009 10:30:18 PM

Early Times Report

Surankot, Apr 10- Former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that the ruling National Conference has brazenly abandoned its ideology for the lust of power. He pointed out that the way National Conference and Congress have entered into alliance, without any program and policy, reflects that grabbing and enjoying power was the one and the only aim of the rulers of this regime.
Addressing impressive public meetings at Surankote and Poonch in support of party candidate Trilok Singh Bajwa, Sayeed opined that despite forming an alliance to run the government, National Conference and Congress don’t have consensus on vital issues pertaining to the State. “Instead of forming a Common Minimum Program (CMP), National Conference leadership, which was desperate to grab power, formed coalition with the Congress by shelving all issues which the party used to raise from time to time”, he said and recalled that despite having just 16 members at its kitty, PDP did not compromise on its ideology and constituted a CMP before joining alliance with Congress in 2002. “We not only formed CMP but also got incorporated our main demands of election manifesto in it”, he reminded the gathering.
Terming National Conference-Congress regime as opportunist alliance, he observed that “there is sense of insecurity among coalition partners”. “Incredible and weak National Conference leadership has been luring political activists of other parties to remove this insecurity”, he said and especially mentioned that due to this insecurity National Conference has lured a PDP leader who had lost assembly election just by a narrow margin and termed this act of ruling party as political corruption.
“National Conference leadership is very much aware that masses of Kashmir Valley, barring some parts of Srinagar city where people boycotted elections, have voted overwhelming in favour of PDP so the ruling party has been indulged in such acts of political corruption”, he said but made it clear that by poaching political rivals National Conference was not going to improve its position in the State. He informed the gathering that PDP has secured more votes than National Conference in Kashmir Valley.
He cautioned that using official machinery and resources to defeat political rivals would be proved disastrous for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “It was the same National Conference-Congress regime that had rigged assembly elections in 1987 with the help of state apparatus”, he reminded, adding, “had Congress-NC not rigged elections in 1987, situation would have been entirely different in this part”.
Reacting to the demands of the people, Sayeed assured that PDP would force the government to open Degree College at Surankote. At Poonch, the former Chief Minister reiterated his assurance that a medical college would be opened in this border town. He expressed surprise that campus of Jammu University has been opened in many places but Poonch district has been ignored without any reason.
Seeking support for his party candidate, he appreciated Trilok Singh Bajwa for effectively taking up the issues of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha. “Our candidate has already proved his capability as member of the Rajya Sabha”, he said. Party candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Trilok Singh Bajwa, Yashpal Sharma, Baji Muzaffar, Hamid Manhas, Imtiyaz Bandey, Falail Singh, A K Sawhney, Dr Mushtaq Bukhari, Shamim Ahmed Ganai, Shamim Dar, Advocate Raina, Lal Hussain Mushtaq, Prem Lata Sudan and others addressed the meetings.
At Surankote prominent National Conference leaders namely Haji Azad, Ayub Khan, Advocate Raja Sarfaraz, Mohammad Rafiq Kotha along with large number of their supporters joined PDP.
