Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 10- In view of the heightened threat perception in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, alert jawans of Jammu and Kashmir police are keeping a tight vigil in and around Jammu region to prevent any major strike by militants.
The security has been beefed up further and regular checking of vehicles and public transport buses is on at several routes to plug the loop holes in the security grid.
In addition to the routine patrolling the jawans of the state police are conducting surprise raids at vulnerable locations, checking record registers and attendance of fresh visitors in general bus stand area and other lodges in walled city area to prevent entry of any fidayeen inside the city.
A similar drive was conducted by the special operations group in Jammu city to create awareness among hotel staff and others on duty in small lodges and guest houses in railway station area and walled city area. The police alerted them and directed them to check the credentials of visitors before giving them access inside the hotel.
The senior police officers who were accompanying the raiding party gave useful tips to the reception staff of several lodges, guest houses and small budget hotels in jewel chowk, Gumat area to verify the credentials of new arrivals in their hotels. Inform the police immediately if you find any suspicious movement, the police officers told the hotel staff. Police also carried out routine searches inside several hotels and checked the hotel rooms.
It may be mentioned that in the recent days intelligence agencies have picked intercepts of militants commanders giving orders to their cadre on the ground to execute militant strike on the eve of the polls with an aim to derail the poll process in the strife torn state.
