JUIT and DDMA Solan launch three-day training | | | Agencies WAKNAGHAT, Jan 27: The Civil Engineering Department (CED) of Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), in collaboration with DDMA Solan, inaugurated a three-day Training Program for Master Trainers on Disaster-Resistant Construction Practices. The program, running from January 22 to 24, 2025, aims to equip participants with essential skills to promote safe construction practices at the grassroots level. A total of 38 nominations, including Junior Engineers (JEs) and Technical Assistants, have been received for the initiative. In his opening remarks, Dr. Tanmay Gupta, Program Coordinator, emphasized the significance of disaster-resistant construction. He highlighted the importance of training programs that enable master trainers to share knowledge with masons and workers at the block level, particularly in disaster-prone regions where quality construction can save lives. Dr. Gupta commenced the training with a session on earthquake-resistant building designs, followed by hands-on demonstrations on testing the quality of construction materials, supported by Dr. Saurav. Brigadier R.K. Sharma, Registrar and Dean of Students, addressed the participants and reaffirmed JUIT's commitment to fostering disaster-resilient infrastructure. He praised the collaboration with DDMA Solan and underscored the long-term value of such skill-development programs. Prof. Ashok Kumar Gupta, Dean of Academics and Research, spoke on the evolving nature of disasters, noting that many are increasingly man-made due to planning and construction errors. His speech encouraged participants to adopt strict safety practices and adhere to construction codes. Prof. Ashish Kumar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, expressed gratitude to the District Administration of Solan and participants for their enthusiastic engagement. He highlighted the importance of site selection and material quality in ensuring disaster-resistant construction. The inaugural day of the program featured hands-on sessions, including quality testing of construction materials, practical demonstrations of earthquake-resistant techniques, and discussions on safe construction practices for disaster-prone regions like Himachal Pradesh. These sessions aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, empowering participants to train masons and workers effectively. This initiative marks a significant step in promoting safe construction practices in the region and showcases JUIT's dedication to disaster risk reduction and capacity building. The training program is expected to create a ripple effect, with master trainers disseminating their learnings to local communities, enhancing disaster preparedness at the grassroots level. |
