GDC Neeli Nallah concludes seven days NSS Special Winter Camp

UDHAMPUR, Jan 30: NSS Unit, "Sewak", Government Degree College Neeli Nallah, Udhampur, successfully organized "Seven Day Special Winter Camp" under the theme "Not Me, But You" w.e.f. 22nd Jan. to 29th Jan 2025 in the College. The camp aimed to provide an opportunity for NSS volunteers to engage in social service activities, such as personality development, community outreach and environmental conservation. The camp was organised under the able guidance of worthy Principal of the College, Prof. Dr. Seema Arora. During the seven day camp, various activities were conducted. The activities were organized by Prof. Shaista Yasmeen, NSS PO. The camp commenced with the registration of NSS Volunteers in the winter camp. On Day 1, the Principal inaugurated the winter camp and emphasized the students that "As we embark on this special winter camp, I want to remind you that this is not just an event, but an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Your participation in this camp will not only help you develop new skills and build lifelong friendships, but also enable you to contribute to the betterment of our society." This was followed by the visit of NSS PO along with the volunteers to Anganwadi centre. The supervisor of the centre awared the students about malnutrition, health checkups and immunization of pregnant women and lactating mother. On Day 2, a cleanliness drive was conducted within the college premises where students collected plastic waste, plastic tea cups, polythene and other waste material and their final disposal was done. On Day 3, a quiz competition on Indian Constitution was organized by Dr. Akhter Hussain and Dr. Mubariq Mahire, Department of Political Science. This quiz competition was organized to encourage critical thinking and analytical skill among students and promote constitutional values. After this, beautification of the college and a plantation drive was conducted, to make the campus greener and more beautiful. On Day 4, NSS PO and volunteers visited Govt. Middle School Neeli Nallah to interact with inmates of the school to promote goodwill gesture, oneness and unity. The volunteers were educated about various schemes viz mid day meal scheme, Samagra Shiksha Scheme, Special teaching for weaker student. This was followed by a pledge taking ceremony and an awareness lecture by the Department of Political science to celebrate National Voters Day. Dr. Akhter Hussain and Dr. Mubariq Mahire gave lecture and briefed the students about the process of voting and encouraged them to participate in the electoral process. Day 5 was merged with Republic Day celebration with a beautiful display of traditional dresses on communal harmony in which NSS volunteers portrayed the performance of communal harmony to symbolize the unity among diversity. This was followed by a poster making, slogan writing competition and an awareness rally under Nasha Mukt Bharat on Day 6. The students showcased their art in the competition and raised slogan "Say No to Drugs" in the awareness rally that was flagged of from the college premises. On Day 7, a valedictory function comprising Yoga Session was conducted in which a yoga instructor Mr. Dinesh Bhagat was invited to raise awareness about the ancient practices of yoga and its positive impact on physical and mental well being. Prof. (Dr.) Seema Arora, Principal of the college was the chief guest of the valedictory function. Students along with the staff members performed various Yoga aasans. The Yoga meditative session radiated positive ambiance and everybody felt very rejuvenated after performing yoga. To conclude NSS PO, Prof. Shaista Yasmeen highlighted whole activities organized during seven day special winter camp. She said that this camp was a unique opportunity for us to come together and learn from each other. While speaking on the occasion the Principal congratulated the Volunteers for their participation in the camp with great zeal and enthusiasm.
