| Kashmiri youths, camping in PoK, keen to return to their homeland | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10- Over a dozen Kashmiri youths, who had crossed to Pakistan and occupied Kashmir for arms training 15 to 18 years ago have surrendered before the security forces after returning to Jammu and Kashmir in recent months. Official sources said that these youths, who were craving for returning to their homeland, had managed to secure Pakistani passports and on the basis of these passports they had traveled to Delhi from where they came to Kashmir where they immediately surrendered before the police.
Sources said that some of these youths had traveled to Nepal on valid Pakistani passports and from there they had come by train to Jammu and Kashmir. A senior police officer said that during preliminary questioning these youths told the security forces that they had become sick of staying in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir. Since they had been told that if they crossed the LOC they would either be killed as infiltrators by the Indian security forces or detained on charge of being militants, hence they first procured the passports and returned to Jammu and Kashmir for surrendering before the security forces so that they could lead a peaceful life. The officer denied reports that some foreigners were coming to Jammu and Kashmir on Pakistani passports and other travel documents. In reply to a question the official sources said that there were more than 5,000 Kashmiri youths in occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. These youths had crossed the LOC between 1990 and 1994.While most of them have settled there after having opened small business establishments others are keen to return to Kashmir. They would have had they been able to secure valid travel documents. It is in this connection that the PDP patron, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, has been persuading the Government of India to take up the issue of repatriation of these Kashmiri youths so that they could return to Jammu and Kashmir and lead a peaceful living. Official sources said that the majority of those youths who have married non Kashmiri women in occupied Kashmir and have children do not show any interest in returning to their home state
