REASI, Jan 30: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organized an in-service training programme on "Organic and Natural Farming" at the Sub-Division Agriculture Office (SDAO), Reasi. The programme was attended by several agricultural officers from the Department of Agriculture, Reasi.
The training was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-J, and the able guidance of Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension. It was coordinated with the support of Sh. Harbans Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi, and Sh. Vinod Khajuria, Sub-Division Agriculture Officer, Reasi.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Reasi, inaugurated the session with a warm welcome to the participants. He provided an in-depth insight into scientific guidelines for commercial organic and natural farming, emphasizing the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly agricultural practices for soil conservation, environmental protection, and human health safety. He highlighted the adverse effects of chemical-based farming and explained how organic formulations such as vermicompost, biofertilizers, biofungicides, and biopesticides can enrich soil health and enhance productivity.
Dr. Lal elaborated on the four pillars of natural farming and stressed the significance of Jeevamrit, Bheejamrit, Ghanjeevamrit, Neemastra, and Brahmastra in ensuring safe and healthy food production. He also discussed crop rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures, cow urine application, Panchgavya, and fermented buttermilk as essential components of organic farming.
Additionally, Dr. Lal guided participants on organic pest control methods, including the use of fruit fly traps, sticky traps, pheromone traps, neem cake, and neem oil. He also encouraged entrepreneurship in organic honey production, emphasizing branding, packaging, labeling, and marketing strategies. The session further explored urban organic vegetable gardening, Azolla farming, and organic dairy farming.
Addressing the gathering, Vinod Khajuria, Sub-Division Agriculture Officer, Reasi, lauded KVK Reasi for conducting a highly beneficial programme and urged participants to implement the acquired knowledge in their respective areas.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where participants raised queries, which were satisfactorily addressed by the KVK scientists. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and formally concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Banarsi Lal.
