| Ravinder Kaul highlights Theatre scenario of J&K in Wroclaw | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10- ‘Theatre in a Conflict Zone’ is the theme of the presentation made by well known theatre critic Ravinder Kaul on the sidelines of the events of XIII edition of Europe Theatre Prize currently underway in Wrocław, Poland. The presentation was made by Ravinder Kaul here today in connection with release of the book titled “Theatre and Humanism in a World of Violence” edited by Ian Herbert and Kalina Stefanova. Stressing the point that it was of utmost importance for all creative people to actively contribute towards strengthening the forces of peace and sanity during conflict situations and in conflict zones, he said that theatre in Jammu and Kashmir has survived the worst catastrophe witnessed in South Asia in recent times. Theatre is a treasure and a key to the functioning of dialogue as well as the understanding of other cultures, Ravinder Kaul said. He quoted examples from performances presented by various theatre groups during recent years in Jammu and Kashmir State. He presented a video of the famous play “Andha Yug’, a strong critique of war written by Dharamvir Bharti and directed by well known theatre director Mushtaq Kak. The underlying theme of the futility of war was underscored by him citing various scenes from the play as examples. The creative and the imaginative presentation style of the play were highly appreciated by the viewers. The Europe Theatre Prize, a pilot program launched by the European Commission was inaugurated in 1986 under the auspices and the support of the European Community, as a prize to be awarded to personalities or theatrical companies that “have contributed to the realization of cultural events that promote understanding and the exchange of knowledge between peoples.”
