| Mehbooba Mufti begins tour of Ladakh | | | Srinagar, Sep 22 In a bid to woo the people of the Ladakh and to set a base for her party there, People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today began a week-long tour of the region. Addressing a public meeting at Drass on the first leg of her tour, Mehbooba said the PDP has emerged as a strong regional force in view of its performance in and outside the state's coalition government .
People from all regions of Jammu and Kashmir now have "great expectations" of the party, she said.
The PDP represented the aspirations of people of all regions, religions and communities of the state in a responsible manner, she said.
Fed up with the exploitative politics of the past, the people, especially in remote and hilly areas of the state, see a ray of hope in the PDP as they have tasted real empowerment during the four years that the PDP-Congress coalition has been in power, she noted.
Mehbooba will also visit Kargil and Leh districts, where she will address party workers and public meetings, a party spokesman said today.
The PDP has its base in the Kashmir Valley and is seeking to strengthen its presence in the Buddhist-majority Ladakh region.
