GDC Thannamandi celebrates Safer Internet Day

THANNAMANDI, Feb 11: The Department of Computer Science and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Govt Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with the Block Development Office Thannamandi celebrated Safer Internet Day as part of Viksit Bharat @2047 Abhiyan here today.
While joining the nation and world in celebrating the Safer Internet Day, one day workshop on the theme "Together for a better internet "organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of College on this occasion wherein Qadeer Charak, Block Development Officer Thannamandi was Chief Guest. Dr. Dr. Ashaq Malik, Co-ordinator IQAC and Prof. Supriya Gupta, Head, Department of Computer Applications in the college coordinated the event.
Dr. Farooq underlined the need for greater digital literacy to overcome the cyber threats and ensure safer use of the internet. He stressed upon the teaching community, parents and all other stakeholders to act together for a safer and better internet for all.
In a highly interactive session, Dr. Ashaq Malik, who was also a resource person on the occasion, gave a comprehensive account of history, growing relevance, emerging cyber threats and safer use of the internet has become an integral part of everyone's life these days. By citing common examples of scams and cyber threats, he emphasised the need for more and more education besides laws for better and safer use of the internet by everyone in society especially women and children.
Qadeer Charak spoke on the social and biological impact of excessive internet usage and suggested precautions to make it better and judicial use. Dr. Nazar Ul Islam, Head Department of Islamic Studies also shared personal experience of cyber frauds and emphasised upon the students and youth to remain away from such cyber threats by developing responsible behaviours.
Earlier, Prof. Rizwana Kousar, Head Department of Kashmiri introduced the audience about the programme and conducted the proceedings whereas Dr. Nazakat Hussain, Head Department of History, presented the formal vote of thanks. Prominent among others present on the occasion were, Dr. Abdul Haque Naimi, Prof. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Goher Iqbal, Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bhat, Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, Prof. Rumy Dar, Dr. Atiq Ul Rehman and Dr. Mohd Zabair.
