| NC-led Govt. bereft of political, economic agenda: Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report Anantnag, Apr 11-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said bereft of any political or economic agenda, the National Conference-led coalition is running the State as a dignified municipal corporation. “For the first time in the State’s history its Chief Minister is now just about a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a specific made-in-Delhi assignment,” she said. Addressing a series of public meetings in Noorabad and Kulgam assembly segments of the Anantnag-Pulwama Parliamentary Constituency today, Mehbooba said instead of piloting the crucial political, security and economic issues concerning the State and its people, the present Government is just acting as a mute extension of New Delhi establishment in the State. “From 2002 to 2005, the PDP-led coalition Government had set a new trend in governance, by making New Delhi to realize and respond to the just concerns and genuine aspirations of the people instead of toeing the Central Government’s line,” she said and added that despite reluctance of various security establishments, small but significant initiatives like, ensuring a relaxed security environment or the people, opening of Gupkar road for movement of commoners, allowing round-the-clock traffic through Jawahar Tunnel, extension of mobile phone facility to the State, release of political detunes and re-opening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad road during the PDP-led Government had not only a tremendous positive impact on the ground situation but such initiatives also helped in transforming the public mindset. “Unfortunately, the scenario has started reversing again fast and the present Government, instead of championing the political, economic and security concerns of the State and its people is just looking towards New Delhi for directions,” Mehbooba said. She cautioned that such a trend could have a negative impact on the people’s psyche and could fuel a fresh wave of alienation and cynicism. Expressing dismay over the concerns being expressed by various quarters over the deteriorating security situation in the State, Mehbooba said the creation of fear-psychosis would not only detrimental for the State’s economic enterprises like tourism, but has also left the people in a quandary. “When Omar Abdullah took over as the Chief Minister on January 5 this year, he is on record to have stated that his government has not to confront the security challenges his predecessors had to face as the security situation in the State is now quite normal,” she said and wondered that what has happened in just three months that everybody from Delhi to Srinagar is crying hoarse about the deteriorating security scenario. Mehbooba said it is high time instead of indulging in political brinkmanship, the present Government must put its act together to prevent the State from sliding into another atrocious dark era mayhem and violence. PDP leaders Abdul Aziz Zargar, Peer Mohammad Hussain and Nazir Ahmad Laway also addressed the meetings.
