PSPS, GCW, Gandhinagar launches Retail Management Training Program

JAMMU, Feb 12: The Department of Commerce and the Department of Computer Sciences at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women (PSPS, GCW), Gandhi Nagar, has inaugurated a short-term training program on "Retail Management" in collaboration with ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation. This initiative aims to equip students with essential industry skills to excel in the rapidly evolving retail sector.
The inaugural ceremony, held today, witnessed the presence of distinguished educators, industry professionals, and students. Mr. Ajay Yousuf from ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation formally launched the program, emphasizing its goal of bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands. He highlighted how the course, which covers retail operations, customer service, sales strategies, and business management, will enhance students' employability and prepare them for career opportunities in the retail industry.
Prof. S.P. Saraswat, Principal of PSPS, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, lauded the efforts of the organizing team and commended the initiative for its potential to benefit students. He emphasized the importance of industry-oriented training in higher education.
Lovetesh Kumar, Senior Manager at ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation, underscored the significance of skill-based programs in fostering career readiness. He noted that the training program would empower students with the necessary expertise to secure promising job opportunities in the retail and related sectors.
Keynote speakers Prof. Arjun Kotwal, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Dr. Asha Devi, Head of the Department of Commerce, stressed the importance of aligning academic training with industry standards. They assured their full support in ensuring the program's success and emphasized how practical knowledge and professional skills gained through such initiatives would enhance students' competitiveness in the job market.
Miss Suraj, the program trainer, introduced participants to the course structure, learning objectives, and key industry insights that would be covered during the training. She highlighted the importance of practical exposure and interactive learning in mastering retail management concepts, providing students with a clear roadmap for skill development in the retail sector.
The event also saw the presence of esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Liaquat Jafri, Head of the Department of Urdu, Dr. Himani Arora, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, and Prof. Paramjeet Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Their participation added further value to the event.
The Retail Management Training Program is expected to provide students with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience, ultimately enhancing their career prospects in the dynamic retail industry.
