Mir, Yaseen and Tarigami to support ruling coalition candidates
4/11/2009 11:36:11 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr11- The ruling coalition of National Conference and the Congress has succeeded in securing the support of the CPIM, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party and the People Democratic Front for the three NC candidates in the Valley and two Congress candidates in the Jammu region who have been fielded by the parties for the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
For the CPIM, Peoples Democratic Front and he Democratic Party there is no other alternative but to support the ruling coalition candidates. Ghulam Hassan Mir, who heads the Democratic Party, said that "we have decided to support the ruling coalition candidates." When asked whether yet to be formed third Front had thought of contesting one or two Lok Sabha seats he said that "we had never thought of fielding our candidates.” We thought over the issue of our support and finding that there was no other party that deserved our support we finally decided to assist the ruling coalition candidates,” he said.
Senior PDP leaders said that the support of the CPIM, the Democratic Party and the Peoples Democratic Front, led by Hakim Mohammed Yaseen, to the ruling coalition candidates could hardly affect the victory chances of the PDP. They said that Yasin, Tarigami and Mir were the only MLAs representing their organizations in the Assembly hence these three men could not upset the PDP's applecart. Even if the voters of the constituencies represented by Tarigami, Mir and Yasin voted for NC candidates it could not help the ruling coalition candidates to stage a win.
However, a senior NC leader said that the support of the CPIM, the Democratic Party and the Peoples' Democratic Front can easily help the NC candidates to secure more votes than their rival in at least 10 Assembly segments which are considered the stronghold of Tarigami, Mir and Yasin.
