KVK Reasi organises Training Programme on Climate Resilient Agriculture

REASI, Feb 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised training programme on climate resilient agriculture here today at Jadh village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by number of tribal farmers of the village.
The programme was organized under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal started the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers.He briefed the objective of the programme and highlighted the significance of high yielding, climate-resilient and biofortfied varieties of different crops.He guided farmers on climate-smart agriculture and stressed on the adoption of climate-resilient varieties for more farm returns.
He said that biofortified crop varieties are nutritionally rich and can play a significant role in enhancing the income of farmers.He further said that changing food systems and malnutrition necessitates innovative food-systems based strategies to address the menace of malnutrition.He added that climate-resilient crop varieties are very effective to combat the climate change. He guided farmers on organic wheat and chickpea production and encouraged them for millets production and natural farming especially in the rainfed areas. He expressed that through natural farming farmers can reduce the cost of cultivation by utilizing the farm resources and produce the healthy food for the people.He stressed on commercial natural farming and guided farmers on natural farming formulations such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Agniastra etc. for more profits. He also spoke on monkeys menace management and stressed on spices cultivation in monkeys prone areas. During the programme the climate resilient varieties of Rabi season crops were demonstrated to the farmers. Farmers took keen interest in the adoption of climate resilient agriculture practices and they were convinced to adopt the technologies recommended by KVK. The programme was concluded by Sh.Manohar Lal with formal vote of thanks.
