Campus Bird Count 2025 at GDC RS Pura

RS PURA, Feb 17: The Government Degree College R.S. Pura hosted the Campus Bird Count 2025 as part of the globally recognized Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) from 14-17 February 2025. This initiative, aimed at documenting and celebrating avian biodiversity, encourages students, faculty, and nature enthusiasts to participate in birdwatching and data collection to contribute to global ornithological research.
Organized by the Department of Environmental sciences in collaboration with Eco-Club of the College, the event provided participants with hands-on experience in bird identification, data recording, and understanding the significance of avian conservation. It was a three day event and more than thirty species of birds were documented from the college campus.The observations from GDC R.S. Pura was uploaded to the international eBird database, supporting worldwide efforts to track bird populations and migration patterns..
Speaking about the event Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, Principal stated, The Campus Bird Count not only fosters ecological awareness among students but also helps in scientific data collection that aids in bird conservation. We encourage everyone to be a part of this meaningful endeavor.
The Campus Bird Count is an annual sub-event of the Great Backyard Bird Count, a citizen science initiative launched by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Bird Count India. The global event runs from 14.02.25 to 17.02.25, inviting bird lovers across the world to observe and report bird sightings.
Mr. Sachin Kumar Bhagat, Assistant Professor was the resource person for the event. He ensured accurate identification and documentation of bird species found within the campus. The event was organized by the faculty of Environmental sciences, Prof. Priya Darshini Sharma, Dr. Sudesh Kumar, Dr. Akrity Parihar and Eco-club of the college. The faculty members from various disciplines were also present at the event.
