2/17/2025 10:24:32 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 17: In response to reports of fare overcharging and the use of tinted glasses in buses, Dr. Mohd. Haseeb Mughal, IPS, DIG Traffic Range Jammu, along with senior traffic officials, visited the Bus Stand Jammu to inspect travel agency operations on 17th February 2025.
The inspection focused on ensuring the display of government-approved rate lists and compliance with safety norms for public transport. During the visit, it was found that several travel agencies lacked the necessary rate lists, prompting an immediate directive to operators to display the approved rate lists at prominent locations within three days. Failure to comply would lead to legal action.
Dr. Mughal also emphasized that travel agencies must charge only government-approved fares and adhere to the Supreme Court's guidelines regarding vehicle safety, specifically concerning the prohibition of tinted films on windows. He instructed the authorities to install helpline numbers at visible locations within the Bus Stand to assist passengers with fare-related grievances.
Further inspections revealed discrepancies in the GST filings of some agencies, and steps were taken to verify the authenticity and registration of each agency to ensure transparency and compliance. DIG Traffic Jammu also stressed the importance of regulating travel agencies, especially since Jammu is a popular religious tourism hub.
In conclusion, the DIG urged the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure that the drive for fair pricing and safety remains effective and beneficial for commuters. Regular inspections will continue to ensure compliance with government norms.
