Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 18: In a sustained and strategic campaign against bovine smuggling under Operation Kamdhenu,Jammu & Kashmir Police undertook a year-long crackdown across District Jammu from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. The intensive operations led to the arrest of 425 smugglers, the rescue of 3434 animals, and the seizure of 360 vehicles used in illegal transportation. These actions reaffirm Jammu Police's commitment to enforcing the law and preventing unlawful activities that threaten public order.
The police stations across Jammu District played a pivotal role in executing targeted operations. Personnel from Police Stations Nagrota, Jhajjar Kotli, Domana, Akhnoor, Kanachak, Khour, Pacca Danga, Satwari, Bishnah, R.S. Pura and other sub-divisional units worked tirelessly to intercept smugglers and dismantle their networks. These police units, equipped with actionable intelligence and rigorous patrolling measures, carried out surprise checkpoints, highway surveillance, and night-long monitoring to prevent the illegal transport of bovines.
Bovine smuggling has been a longstanding challenge, with perpetrators frequently using unauthorized routes, forging transportation permits, and evading law enforcement by adopting new tactics. To counter these evolving threats, Jammu Police enhanced its intelligence-sharing mechanisms, strengthened inter-district coordination, and deployed special teams at vulnerable points. The collaboration with local communities also played a crucial role, as residents actively reported suspicious movements, enabling swift police action.
The magnitude of operations underscores the zero-tolerance policy of Jammu Police towards criminal activities. Several high-profile smugglers were apprehended during the year, and strict legal actions under relevant sections of the law were initiated against them. The seized vehicles, often modified for illegal transport, were impounded as part of strong deterrence measures to curb such offenses in the future.
Jammu Police continues to emphasize that bovine smuggling not only violates the law but also poses serious risks to animal welfare, road safety, and communal harmony. The department remains vigilant in ensuring that those involved in such illicit trade are held accountable. With a robust framework of intelligence-led policing and enhanced patrolling strategies, Jammu Police remains steadfast in its mission to completely eradicate this menace.
In the coming months, the crackdown against bovine smuggling will intensify further, with increased night patrols, stricter highway monitoring, and rapid-response teams deployed at critical junctions. Jammu Police urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. The cooperation of citizens is vital in maintaining law & order and peace across the region.
