Divisional level workshop on PCPNDT Act held

JAMMU, Feb 18: A Divisional Level Orientation Workshop on the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 was organized today at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Jammu. The event aimed to strengthen the implementation of the Act and improve the sex ratio across districts.
The workshop was inaugurated by Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Magotra, alongside Deputy Director Schemes Dr. Poonam Sethi, Deputy Director Dentistry Dr. Sanjay Sharma, State Nodal Officer Dr. Harjeet Rai, State Malariologist Dr. D.J. Raina, and other senior officials. The program was coordinated by Nodal Officer PCPNDT Dr. Simmi Verma and assisted by Ms. Shivali Gupta, Law Officer.
Dr. Magotra emphasized the need for a proactive approach in implementing the PCPNDT Act and monitoring clinics at the block level to curb sex-selective practices. The Deputy Director Schemes provided insights into the current sex ratio across Jammu Division, while Dr. Harjeet Rai urged officials to focus on district-level improvements.
The workshop featured legal sessions by Assistant Law Officer Sh. Gulbadin, Ms. Masroor Hassan (Assistant Law Remembrancer, Family Welfare Department), and Ms. Shivali Gupta, covering PCPNDT Act compliance, court procedures, and legal issues. The event also included film screenings on women empowerment and saving the girl child.
A Q&A session encouraged active participation from district representatives. The workshop concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where participants received certificates and mementoes. A Vote of Thanks was delivered by Divisional Nodal Officer Dr. Simmi Verma.
