MVD challaned 100 vehicles, expected to collect Rs 6 lakh fine through e-challan

Kathua, Feb 18: Motor Vehicle Department Kathua took a major action against traffic rule violators as well as goods vehicles and challaned hundred vehicles during joint naka checking at Lakhanpur check post today and collected a fine of Rs 6 lakh from the violators.
Officials said that on the directions of Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan, a team of Motor Vehicle Department Kathua led by ARTO Kathua Shammi along with Flying Squad team of National Highway of MVD Department led by ARTO Pawan Kumar conducted joint naka checking at check post Lakhanpur. During the night, the team checked 600 vehicles in which more than 100 passenger and goods vehicles violators were booked under various provisions of Motor Vehicles Act and rules made thereunder. The team issued e-challans to hundred vehicles for various violations of Motor Vehicles Act. A fine of Rs 6 lakh will be collected from the vehicles with e-challans.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kathua Shammi Kumar said that for the last several days, the department was receiving complaints that some goods vehicles come from Punjab overloaded. Acting on the complaint, last night the team of flying squad of MVD and the team of RTO Kathua set up a joint naka at check post Lakhanpur and took strict action against passenger and goods vehicles violating the rules. Also, a fine of Rs 6 lakh was collected from hundred vehicles through e-challan. He appealed to the drivers not to overload their vehicles. If any vehicle is found overloaded again, strict action will be taken against it under the law and it will not be spared at any cost. He said that this campaign will continue in future as well.
Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan also visited Lakhanpur check post during the joint naka set up by the team of flying squad of RTO Kathua and MVD National Highway. He directed the officers to take strict action against those who are overloading their vehicles and entering Jammu and Kashmir from the Punjab side.
