BIS conducts Gram Chaupal at Rangarh Gram Panchayat to promote quality awareness

AMRITSAR, Feb 19: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully organized a Gram Chaupal at Rangarh Gram Panchayat, Attari Block, Amritsar District. Held at the Gurudwara of Rangarh, the event saw active participation from over 80 attendees, including key Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives, Anganwadi and health workers, and community members.
Dignitaries present included Jagjiwan Singh, Panchayat Secretary of Rangarh Gram Panchayat; Sumanpreet Kaur, wife of Samsher Singh, Sarpanch of Rangarh Gram Panchayat, Attari Block; Hira Singh, Panchayat Secretary of Ranike Gram Panchayat and Sarabjit Kaur, wife of Joga Singh, Sarpanch of Ranike Gram Panchayat, Attari Block. The participation of representatives from both Rangarh and Ranike Gram Panchayats underscored the importance of the program.
The Gram Chaupal initiative is a BIS-driven awareness program aimed at educating rural communities on the significance of standardization and quality assurance. Under the guidance of Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS-JKBO, this initiative is being implemented across Amritsar district. The jurisdiction of BIS-JKBO extends across six districts of Punjab: Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot.
The primary objective of the program was to enhance awareness of BIS activities, identification of ISI Mark and Hallmarked Jewellery, and demonstrate the BIS Care App. BIS remains committed to fostering a quality-conscious society through extensive training and awareness programs targeted at Gram Panchayats, schools, colleges (via Standards Clubs), industries. Govt. departments and stakeholders.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, provided insights into BIS initiatives and their impact. He emphasized the role of BIS in providing third-party assurance to consumers and highlighted the significance of organizing Gram Chaupals at the grassroots level to promote quality awareness. He urged community members to adopt quality products and become vigilant consumers.
Addressing the gathering, Kamaljit Ghai, Resource Person, elaborated on the critical role of standardization in improving daily life efficiency and consumer safety. He explained how adherence to BIS standards leads to enhanced lifestyles, better consumer protection and overall community development. He also introduced and demonstrated the BIS Care App, showing attendees how to verify the authenticity of BIS-certified products and report substandard goods, ensuring consumer rights and promoting quality assurance.
The initiative received overwhelming appreciation from participants, who recognized the necessity of integrating quality standards into Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
