| Governor, CM extend Baisakhi greetings | | | Early Times report Jammu, Apr 12- Governor, N. N. Vohra, has extended warm greetings and good wishes to the people on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi. In a message of greetings, the Governor said that the day has a special significance for the Sikh community, as Khalsa Panth was born on this day. He said that Baisakhi also marks the beginning of the New Year in the Indian Calendar. The Governor said that on this auspicious day, farmers in northern parts of India reap the harvest of their toil. He said that the festival also reflects the shining example of the pluralistic ethos of our society. The Governor hoped that Baisakhi would be celebrated with traditional fervour and in a spirit of harmony, while praying for peace, brotherhood and tranquility in the State. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ALSO greeted the people on Baisakhi, hoping that the day would be celebrated in a spirit of joy and harmony. In a message, Abdullah said the day has a special significance in the history of Sikhism, as on this day, the Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singhji founded the Khalsa Panth in 1699. The day also marks the beginning of the New Year of the Indian Calendar and in various parts of the country, it signifies the start of harvest, bringing farmers fruit of their hard work, he added. The Chief Minister urged the people to celebrate this great festival in unison with traditional fervour and gaiety to further strengthen the secular and social fabric of our State.
