| ‘NO Taliban in J&K’ | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Sunday, Apr 12 Rejecting the media reports about the presence of Taliban militants in Kashmir, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah sought the help of visiting doctors to present actual picture of the Valley to the world outside. The presence of Taliban militants in the frontier district of Kupwara was nothing but a 'propaganda' started by some vested elements who wanted to affect the tourism industry in the valley. ''The situation in the Kashmir Valley is absolutely normal and there was no threat of any Taliban as was being projected by some news channels,'' he said at the annual conference of the Northern Chapter of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre, here yesterday. The National Conference (NC) president said the reports were aimed at crushing Kashmir's economy. He said tourism is the only industry which provides livelihood to thousands, directly and indirectly in the Valley. But, he said, some people want to destroy this industry.
e alleged that similar propaganda was carried out and a huge issue was made out of the Amarnath Yatra last year, because of which our tourism industry suffered heavy losses.
Dr Abdullah sought the help of the visiting doctors, who had come here from various states, to inform people about the ground situation in Kashmir.
''Please project the correct peaceful picture of the Valley once you go back so that tourist can, come here in large numbers,'' he said.
