30-hour course on GST Return Filing culminates at MCM

CHANDIGARH, Feb 24: The 30-hour course on 'GST Return Filing' culminated at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh. The course was held in collaboration with Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (CSDE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, and was coordinated by Skill Development Cell and Post Graduate Department of Commerce at the college. The course focused on providing conceptual and practical insights into Goods and Services tax, registration and return filing. A total of 42 students from different streams and colleges of tricity, and 15 non-teaching staff members of the college gained first-hand experience of registering and filing GST return. The objective of the workshop was to equip the participants with skills to handle GST compliance, and empower them to venture in the field of entrepreneurship and to become GST practitioners for any type of business. The objectives were well achieved in the span of one week, where experts from the filed of Goods and Services Tax delivered engaging sessions and covered in detail the provisions of GST in India with practical examples. The first day had two speakers CA Ankur Sharma and CA Jatin Rathour in two different sessions discussed the concepts of GST with the participants and increased their awareness as consumers about GST on various products and services, thereby laying a strong foundation of the workshop. Day 2 began with a session by CA Jyoti Soi who discussed taxable event under GST followed by CA Jatin Rathour who elaborated about the concept of inclusive GST, Forward Charge and Reverse Charge Mechanism. On Day 3, CA Jatin Rathour explained about the basic documents required for registration under GST, while CA Rajan Agnihotri discussed practical aspects of Input tax credit and explained the details of registration process with live demonstration of registration on the GST portal. Day 4 and 5 saw interactive sessions on GST Return filing with practical examples by the experts. A live demonstration of the entire procedure of return filing on the GST portal was also shown to the participants. On the culmination day, the resource persons focussed on situations for claiming refunds and procedure to be followed for the same. A test was conducted at the end of the workshop to assess the knowledge gathered by the participants during the 30-hours of intensive learning.
Officiating Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan congratulated the organising team on successful completion of the course and appreciated the efforts for this unique skill initiative. She further expressed her special gratitude to Professor Suveera Gill, Honorary Director, CSDE, Panjab University, Chandigarh for her support and guidance during the course.
