| Marriages, those were celebrated in Srinagar but not fixed in heaven | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 13: Marriages, it is said are fixed in heaven and solemnized on earth. But in Srinagar, the local Police have busted a racket involved in faking the weddings. According to SSP Srinagar, Syed Afadul Mujtaba, the Station Sadder received a complaint from Bashir Ahmad Langoo son of Ghulam Ahmed Langoo of Rainawari that some impostor had married him. After the complainant, he said, Langoo recognized Sitara Begum as the woman who had posed as his wife’s mother before and during the ‘Nikah” ceremony. “On this complaint, a separate case was registered under section 419,420,468,471,494,496,34 RPC and during the course of investigation of this complaint it came to light that the above mentioned accused persons along with the following three others were running a meticulously planned ‘marriage racket’. The others include Nisar Ahmed Jat son of Raj Mohammad of Abahama Pakherpora, Shakeela wife of Reyaz Ahmed Najar of Angmatipora Mattan Islamabad and Abdul Majid Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir of Beerwa Ganjlalpora. The city police chief said that the gang used to identify prospective grooms. The kingpin of the gang, he said, Nisar Ahmed Jat used to approach the prospective groom’s family as a middleman. Ordinarily, Nisar Ahmed Jat used to introduce Shakeela as the prospective bride and Sitara Begum as the Bride’s mother. Ghulam Nabi Ganai used to pose as the Bride’s brother, Abdul Majid Ganie as the Bride’s brother –in –law and Ganie’s wife, Haleema used to pose as the bride’s sister. “After conducting the marriage, the impostor wife and her makeshift family used to make good with the gold ornaments and cash that they received as part of the ‘Nikah’ ceremony. For the purpose of fixing the marriage the gang used to rent a house,” he said, “The rented house used to be vacated by the gang once they had given effect to their nefarious designs.” The city police chief said, during course of investigation several other cases have come to light whereby the gang has duped unsuspecting grooms, thereby denigrating the scared institution of marriage. He said that Ghulam Mohammad Wani son of Ghula Mohideen Wani of Warnav Kupwara was also duped into marriage by the gang. He said that three fake ‘Nikahnamas’ have been recovered at the instance of the gang members. In another case, the police chief claimed to have solved a kidnapping case under FIR No. 30/09 at Police Station Rainawar Meanwhile, the Police on Monday claimed to have busted a meticulously planned marriage racket besides cracking burglary and kidnapping cases in city. Addressing reporters here, the city police chief Syed Afadul Mujtaba said that Police Division Chanapora received a complaint from Ghulam Mohammad Malik son Mohammad Subhan Malik resident of Mehboob Colony, Natipora to the effect that a tenant family in his house had run away after having stolen his gold ornaments worth about Rs 1,00,000. He said a case was immediately registered on the receipt of the complaint and investigation initiated. Three persons including two ladies were arrested during the investigation, he said. The city police chief identified them as Ghulam Nabi Ganai son of Ghulam Qadir of Ganjlalpora Beerwah Budgam, Sitara Begum Alias Alfi wife of Ghulam Rasool Dass of Zarpara Bijbehara and Haleema wife of Abdul Majid Ganai of Ganjlalpora. He said that the gold bangles and a pair of golden ear rings were recovered from them.
