Electioneering adversely affecting routine life in Doda
4/13/2009 10:03:22 PM

Shariq Nabi
Doda, Apr 13- It is rightly said that big personalities speak tall but their deeds are small. Similar thing is with our politicians today. Now a day they had a hectic schedule of public meetings all over the state. In these meetings they make promises with the people for their redressal from their sufferings, without thinking for a while, whether their program, venue is effecting their day today routine or not. It is a big joke itself that politicians who on one side organize their public meetings in which they claim that they are the one who can save them from the miseries of governance. But on the other hand they are pushing them to walls and leaving them to suffer.
Leaders for their convenience are organizing public meetings at public places resulting common man to suffer. Here parties are organizing public functions at New Bus stand because of which the business establishments surrounding the venue are forced to shut down their shutters in view of security of VIPs. Moreover the entire transportation system gets disturbed and people have to walk long distances to reach their destinations. It is worth mentioning that the Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations were celebrated in Sports stadium Doda which is in the outskirts of the town and people too do not suffer as well. But it seems that neither politicians nor district administration is worried about common masses.
For gathering of people to make their program successful, leaders/ parties are booking all passengers, commercial and even private vehicles for the convenience of their party supporters as a result common man is forced to suffer. As the date of election comes nearer the party is applying its all sources to garner the support. For campaigning party stalwarts are touring far off places to motivate the general masses and gain their support.
As a result most of the commercial vehicles are hired causing common man to suffer. But they had never thought that with their program whether common people suffer or not. Not only this hundred of labourers, vendors and shopkeepers, who are near these public meeting venues are forced to close their establishments a day before these functions are to take place.
A 53- year old lady Yasmina Begum said that she was ill and came here to have a check-up at district hospital but due to non-availability of vehicles she did not reach here in time as a result she had to spend one night here. Moreover, if there were vehicles plying on roads they are overloaded carrying passengers double of its capacity. It is worth to mention that during the last month a fatal accident occurred in which nine persons lost their life that vehicle too was overloaded.
Beside this, on part of administrative level no government run transport corporation vehicles were made available as an alternative.
