| RKSP claims support of Gujjars | | | Early Times report Jammu Apr 13- About five hundred members of Gujjar community, old, young men and women of Harya Chak village in Hiranagar Tehsil of Kathus district today gave rousing welcome to the Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party (RKSP) candidate from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency Rajesh Manchanda, who along with the state President of the party Tanveer Hussain Babzada paid visit to the village for election campaign. The prominent members of the Gujjar community, who had gathered to welcome the RKSP leaders, pledged whole heated support of over 2000 members of Gujjar community inhabiting Harya Chak and adjoining villages to the RKSP candidate Rajesh Manchanda in the Lok Sabha election. Speaking at the public meeting, the leaders of the Gujjar community said that they have been traditional supporters of the National Conference, right from the days of Sheikh Abdullah’s rule in the state, when Begum Akbar Jahan, the late mother of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and grandmother of present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fully identified herself with the urges and aspirations of the Gujjar community and worked for their uplift. They had also voted for the NC candidate in the 2008 state assembly elections. But they are disillusioned with the NC after it joined hands with the Congress to form the government in the state.
