Jammu, Apr 13- Governor, N. N. Vohra, has appointed Feroze Ahmad, former Commissioner Sales Tax, as Honorary General Secretary, J&K State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society. The Governor, who is also the President of Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch, has made the appointment of Feroze Ahmad for a period of three years from the date he assumes the charge. He replaces G. J. Nehvi, the Honorary General Secretary, who, after an excellent tenure, has attained the ceiling age of 70 years. Born in 1945, Feroze Ahmad has a rich and varied administrative experience. Starting his service career in 1970 as District Industries Officer he held several responsible positions, including as General Manager J&K Small Scale Industries Development Corporation and as Deputy Commissioner of the Kargil, Anantnag and Srinagar Districts, Managing Director SICOP, Managing Director J&KTDC and Director, Rural Development, both in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions. On his services being placed at the disposal of the Government of India, on deputation basis, Feroze Ahmad was appointed Director Census Operations, J&K State, in 1999, and conducted the Census of 2001. Pending repatriation from the Central deputation, he was posted as Director Social Welfare with the additional charge of Director Census Operations, in October 2001. In early 2004 he was posted as Commissioner Sales Tax and served on this post till his retirement from Government service in October 2005. Thereafter, in April 2006, he agreed to lead “Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-Earthquake Victims in J&K”, a project funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.
