KVK Reasi promotes oilseed crops production among SHGs

Jammu, Mar 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and guiding women Self Help Groups (SHGs) members on scientific cultivation of oilseed crops in Reasi district of J&K under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. According to Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal there is need to increase the oilseeds production in the district so as to increase oilseeds crop production and enhance the income and employment among the farmers. He said that Reasi district has an immense potential in oilseeds production and farmers can increase their oilseeds production by adopting the new agricultural practices in oilseeds production. He added that KVK Reasi is educating the Krishi Sakhis of different SHGs on the scientific cultivation of oilseeds and guiding them on the quality seed, Integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management practices in oilseeds crops.He added that in order to increase the income of the women farmers’ oilseeds can play a significant role. He narrated that KVK is guiding farm women on timely plant protection measures in oilseeds so as to obtain the maximum yield and get maximum farm results. He added that oilseeds production will not only increase the income of the farmers but also enhances the nutritional level of the rural women by producing the quality oil. He further said that KVK is stressing on the improved varieties of oilseeds and timely management of insect-pests for more farm returns. He expressed that there is need to emphasize on the value addition in oilseeds and start micro-entrepreneurship on oilseeds among the SHGs members in rural areas. KVK, Reasi has laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on oilseeds in different locations of Reasi district to showcase the improved technologies to the farmers and farmers are showing keen interest towards the adoption of the new techniques in oilseeds production.
