GDC Vijaypur Celebrates World Wildlife Day

JAMMU, Mar 3: Department of Environmental Sciences and Ecoclub of Government Degree College Vijaypur celebrated World Wildlife Day 2025 with a seminar focused on the theme "Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet." The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and the need to protect our planet's biodiversity.
GPoonam Kundan (Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and Convener Ecoclub), delivered an insightful presentation elaborating on the significance of the theme for 2025. She emphasized the interconnectedness of all living beings and the vital role that wildlife plays in maintaining ecological balance. Her discussion included various threats faced by wildlife, such as habitat loss, climate change, and poaching, and highlighted the importance of collective action in conserving our natural heritage.
Dr. Vandana Verma, Principal of GDC Vijaypur, also shared her views during the seminar. She underscored the role of educational institutions in promoting environmental awareness and encouraged students to engage in sustainable practices that benefit both wildlife and communities. Students of the college actively participated in the Seminar. First position was achieved by Rupaank Aryan of BA Semester VI, Second position was attained by Amjad Hussain of BSc. Semester IV and third position was secured by Ranjit Kaur of B.Sc. Semester IV. Consolation prizes were awareded to Avijeet Kumar and Vishal Sharma of B.Sc. Semester IV. Principal of the college, Dr. Vandana Verma appreciated the efforts of the students for their active participation. The whole event was coordinated by Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences). Prizes and certificates were awarded to winners and all participants.
