| Troops exchange fire at Poonch LoC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 13: The construction of a platform by men from the Indian army at the famous ‘friendship’ point along the LoC in Poonch sector has created tension between the Pakistani and Indian troops deployed along the Line of Control. Sources said that Pakistan Army objected to the construction activities going on along the Indian side. The Pakistani troops on Saturday lowered their white flag and unfurled a red flag on their side. Pakistani border guards also pointed guns at construction workers to scare them away. Interestingly, Indian army is constructing a platform meant to facilitate passengers crossing through the LoC at the Chiken-da-Bagh crossing point. Defence officials maintain that Pakistan Army had already constructed a similar platform on their side. “Pakistani authorities constructed the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) at least 50 metres beyond the zero line, which openly violates the Rules and Regulation of the LoC. We did not raise any objection,” sources maintained. Sources said that following the hardened stance senior military officials from both the sides are in constant touch and soon a meeting is being organized to sort out the matter. The ‘friendship’ point was created in 2006 when both sides proposed the construction of passenger facility centres. Pakistan constructed a concrete platform, friendship point to provide seating for the passengers while authorities in the Indian side pitched tents for the purpose.
