MLAs Ajaz Jan and Farooq Shah raise concern over Poonch-Loran to Tangmarg Road in Legislative Assembly

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 7: Today, in the Legislative Assembly, MLA Poonch, Ajaz Jan, and MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Shah, raised an important issue regarding the Poonch-Loran to Tangmarg Road, which was initiated in 2012-2013 under the leadership of then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The project was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the then Forest Minister, Mian Altaf, who ensured road clearance from the Forest Department, including the removal of trees along the alignment. Additionally, the wood from these trees was distributed to families in Haveli, Poonch, whose houses were damaged in the 2005 earthquake.
Unfortunately, in 2015, the PDP-BJP government disrupted the project by altering the road alignment due to the influence of a few miscreants for their personal interests. This led to the stoppage of work, causing significant inconvenience to the people of Pir Panjal.
During the session, MLA Ajaz Jan urged the concerned minister to resume work on the road and allocate necessary funds for its completion. Both MLA Poonch and MLA Gulmarg jointly emphasized that the previous government ignored the Pir Panjal region, and they expressed hope that under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, the current government will prioritize and restart the project. Furthermore, they demanded strict legal action against those responsible for the delay, ensuring accountability and justice for the affected people of the region.
Concerned Minister Surinder Choudhary assured both MLAs in the House that the matter would be addressed, and necessary steps would be taken to ensure the resumption and completion of the Poonch-Loran to Tangmarg Road project at the earliest.
