GDC Vijaypur organizes lecture on role of women in constituent assembly

JAMMU, Mar 8: In commemoration of International Women's Day, under the celebration of 75 years of adoption of Constitution of India and 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the Department of History at GDC Vijaypur organized a thought-provoking lecture on the theme "Role of women in the Constituent Assembly" in the conference hall. The event was held under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma, aimed to honor women's achievements, recognize their contributions to society, and advocate for gender equality.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Radhika Rasyal (Lecturer History). She in her interactive lecture underscored the historical significance of International Women's Day, emphasizing the role of women in making the Constitution of India. The lecture was thought provoking and aiming to raise awareness about the 15 women among the 299-member Constituent Assembly who advocated passionately for a kind of India that would bear the imprint of both genders. These women made valuable contributions to the drafting of the Constitution and advocated for the inclusion of gender equality and women's rights. The event was attended by the students and the faculty members.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma expressed her appreciation for the courage, potential, and strength of Nari Shakti (women power). She highlighted the significance of such events in acknowledging women's achievements, promoting discussions on gender parity, and advocating for substantive transformation.
The program was organized under the able guidance and supervision of the esteemed Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta. The event was carried out with full support of the senior faculty members Prof. Anita Jamwal, Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat (HOD Sociology) and Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Environmental Sciences). The event was coordinated by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (HOD English), Dr Sonia Jamwal (Lecturer History) and Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal (Lecturer Education).
