Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14- The Information Department released an informative Handbook on Parliamentary Elections- 2009 in Jammu and Kashmir, here today.
The Handbook was released by the state Chief Electoral Officer, B. R. Sharma. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal , Inspector General of Police, Jammu K. Rajendra and Director, Information, Khalid Bashir Ahmad were present on the occasion .
This is the second handbook published by the Information Department as it had earlier released a handbook on Assembly Elections- 2008 ahead of the electoral exercise last year.
Sharma appreciated the effort of the Information Department in bringing out a very informative handbook on the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and said that the department had also brought out a similar handbook on the eve of last Assembly elections. The handbook, he said received wide appreciation from media persons.
The present handbook covers concise information one would generally require for smooth coverage of Parliamentary elections 2009 in the State.
Printed in attractive blue paperback cover, the book presents all statistical details about all the six Parliamentary constituencies of the State along with information about the bye-polls being held in three Assembly constituencies of Bhaderwah, Sonawar and Hazratbal. The book also provides constituency profiles of the six Lok Sabha seats, besides the three Assembly constituencies. These profiles give names of all the winners from 1967 till 2004, when the last General Elections were held.
One of the highlights of the Handbook is the addresses of officers in Election Commission of India, Office of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Civil and Police administration as well as Information Department, which are off and on needed while filing stories by correspondents on election trail.
The handbook along with its compact disc (CD) was distributed among the media persons present on the occasion. The handbook in electronic form was also e-mailed to media persons.
The handbook and the CD were also simultaneously distributed among media persons at Srinagar.
