GDC Thannamandi Celebrates International Women's Day

THANNAMANDI, Mar 8: The Women Development Cell (WDC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi in collaboration with Sub-Divisional Administration Thannamandi and Block Development Office Thannamandi celebrated International Women's Day on the theme "Accelerate Action" as part of Viksit Bharat@2047 Abhiyan here today. To mark the Day a symposium on the topic "Role of Women in Constitution Making" organized by under the proficient guidance of Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed wherein Abid Hussain Shah, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Thannamandi was Chief Guest and Qadeer Charak, Block Development Officer, Thannamandi, a Special Guest. In the Symposium that was aimed to inspire and empower women to take an active role in shaping the country's future, Amreen Qureshi won first prize whereas Afsana Kouser and Kamran Mumtaz bagged 2nd and third position respectively. The jury members included Dr. Nazar Ul Islam, Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bha and Dr. Shiraz Ahmed. The event featured the participation of students of GDC Thannamandi who shared their views on the topic. The eminent speakers included Prof Nagina Kouser, Head of Economics Department, who spoke about accelerating women empowerment action and their role. Abid Hussain Shah, highlighted the importance of women's participation in governance and decision-making processes. Qadeer Charak, emphasized upon the need for women's empowerment and education to achieve sustainable development. Dr. Farooq Ahmed spoke about the role of women in education and their contributions to the field of academics. Earlier, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Convener WDC, introduced the audience about the programme and welcomed the guests. She emphasized upon the need to accelerate action from one's own home. Prof. Rizwana conducted the proceedings and Prof. Rumi Dar, a member of the organizing committee, played a crucial role in making the event a success. Prof. Supriya Gupta, NSS PO, presented the vote of thanks.
