GDC Nagrota celebrates International Women's Day

JAMMU, Mar 8: Under the aegis of IQAC,Women Development and Empowerment Cell of GDC Nagrota in collaboration with Department of Political Science celebrated International Women's Day. On this occassion, the contribution of 13 remarkable women who played a vital role in drafting the Indian Constitution and brought forward crucial perspective on gender equality, social justice and fundamental rights were remembered. Students highlighted the role and contribution of women members of the constitution Assembly -Sarojni Naidu, Hansa Mehta, Raj Kumari, Amrit Kaur, Durgabai Deshmukh, Renuks Ray, Vijay lakshmi Pandit. Their contribution influenced key provisions related to gender justice, education, health and equal rights in independent India. Welcome address of the event was given by Prof Shalini Raina HOD Political science and vote of thanks was given by Prof. Vandana Ghai, Convener, Women Development and Empowerment cell. Principal of the College Prof. Anjali Mahajan addressed the students and spoke about need of Gender Sensitization in our society so that women can enjoy equality at work front and at home. She also elaborated on this year s theme For ALL women and girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.
