| Observance of Fire Services Day | | | EarlY Times Report Jammu, Apr 14-The Department of Fire and Emergency Services today observed the Fire Services Day throughout the State to commemorate the services rendered by the gallant firemen who laid down their lives for safeguarding the life and property of others during rescue and fire-fighting operations. The commemoration parades were held at State, provincial and district level where wreaths were laid on the memorials of the martyrs. In Jammu, the main function was held at Fire and Emergency Headquarters at Gandhinagar. Director, Fire and Emergency Services, R. S. Sodhi, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, paid homage to the firemen who laid their lives for the noble cause. He also highlighted the significance of Fire Services Day. Sodhi said that the department has been organizing mass public awareness programs like symposium, debates, demonstrations and conducting publicity campaigns through print and electronic media. He impressed upon all the officers to make elaborate arrangements for conducting regular public awareness programs especially in the industrial establishments and educational institutions to make people aware of the fire prevention measures. Sodhi said that banners and posters exhibiting fire prevention messages have also been displayed at conspicuous places besides, distributing fire safety leaflets in different educational institutions. He said that the special teams need to be constituted for conducting fire safety demonstrations throughout the week. Lauding the role of service personnel, the Director asked them to serve with zeal and dedication for saving the life and property. In Kashmir, similar function was held at Fire and Emergency Headquarters, Batmaloo, Srinagar.
