| Party MLAs display their unity | | All is well with the state BJP unit: Gupta | | Early Times Report Jammu Apr 14- -In a significant development the right wing Bhartiya Janata Party, BJP on Tuesday displayed their unity by appearing jointly in a press conference at Jammu. All the 11 legislators, who were till now poles apart, appeared together at the press conference and declared "all was well" with the state unit. "There are no differences within the party, we are solidly behind our candidates in the polls," BJP legislature party leader Chaman Lal Gupta said while addressing the press conference flanked by 10 other legislators, including the BJP's state unit chief Ashok Khajuria. Reports said that strong differences had surfaced between Gupta and Khajuria, with the former having strong reservations over the candidature of Lila Karan Sharma - the former convener of the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) - from Jammu-Poonch constituency and that of former state unit president Nirmal Singh from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary Constituency. Gupta had kept away from meetings with the party's national president Rajnath Singh and his rallies addressed by him to show his displeasure. The party's vice president and state in-charge Shanta Kumar had to tell the leaders to sink their differences and exhibit unity. "Now everything is settled. There are no issues," Gupta said. He said that the issues that had figured between him and other party leaders have been blown out of proportion and now every issue has been settled. "Our house is in order now. There should be no speculation on this issue," Ashok Khajuria added. Pertinently, the ‘unity display’ was organized at the behest of the senior party leaders. Reports said that the central leadership was in touch with the state unit and had instructed them to settle their issues before the poll process gets started in the state.
