Early Times Report JAMMU, APRIL 14 - Hectic election campaign has been witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir from the word go with announcement of poll schedule for the five-phased Lok Sabha elections in the State on March 2.
Since then, 893 election rallies have been organised by various political parties and candidates across the State, including 658 large and medium rallies. Of these, 683 rallies were held in Jammu Division and 210 in Kashmir Division.
The campaigning in the Jammu Parliamentary constituency was star-studded with top national and state-level leaders of various political parties addressing the elections rallies. They included Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, Union Minister for Water Resources and JKPCC President, Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP President, Ms. Mayawati, MoS in PM’s Office, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, AICC General Secretary, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, BJP President, Mr. Rajnath Singh, BJP All India General Secretary, Mr. Arun Jaitley, former Chief Ministers, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mr. Shanta Kumar and Mr. Shatrughan Sinha of the BJP.
In Jammu Parliamentary constituency, for which polling is being held on April 16 in the first phase of elections in the State, as many as 294 election rallies have been organised by various political parties and the contesting candidates, all over 21 Assembly segments in Jammu, Samba, Poonch and Rajouri districts.
Of the total rallies held in the State so far, Congress organised 298, NC 165, PDP 164, BJP 158, NPP 53, BSP 29, PDF 5, SP, Kranti Dal and Independents three each, CPI(M), ANC, JSM and People’s National Front two each and NCP, Bajrang Dal, Backward Classes Democratic Party and JK Awami Party one each.
In Jammu Division, where the two Parliamentary constituencies of Jammu and Udhampur are going to polls in the first and second phase of Lok Sabha elections, respectively, as many as 683 election rallies have been held so far, including 294 in Jammu Lok Sabha constituency. These include 283 organised by Congress, 153 by BJP, 79 by PDP, 78 by NC, 52 by NPP, 28 by BSP, three by Kranti Dal, two each by SP and JSM and one each by PDF, Bajrang Dal and Backward Classes Democratic Party.
As far as Kashmir Division is concerned, of the total 210 election rallies, NC organised 87, PDP 85, Congress 15, BJP five, PDF four, Independents three, CPI(M), ANC and People’s Front two each and NPP, BSP, NCP, SP and JK Awami Party one each.
On the last day of campaigning in Jammu Parliamentary constituency, as many as 15 rallies and road shows were organized by various political parties and contesting candidates.
