Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, has lauded the Narendra Modi-led central government for the significant revival of tourism in the border and International Border (IB) areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He attributed this positive development to the government's robust policies and the empowerment of security forces, which have effectively curtailed ceasefire violations along the Jammu borders.
Kavinder Gupta made these remarks during a meeting at the BJP Party Headquarters in Jammu, where he discussed the current scenario of border tourism. The meeting was attended by prominent party members, including Vice President Aseem Gupta, Chander Mohan Sharma, Sanjita Dogra, Rajiv Charak, Vinay Gupta, Perdesuman Singh, Balbir Ram, Vikas Bhatti, and Harbhajan Singh Pamma.
Reflecting on the period before 2014, Kavinder Gupta noted that the Jammu region witnessed numerous ceasefire violations, which not only endangered the lives of residents but also hampered economic activities, particularly tourism, in the border areas. He emphasized that the frequent disturbances deterred tourists from visiting these regions, leading to economic setbacks for local communities.
"The scenario has markedly changed since the Modi government assumed office in 2014,l. The strong and decisive policies of Modi government, coupled with granting a free hand to our security forces, have resulted in a significant reduction in ceasefire violations along the Jammu borders. This newfound peace and stability have paved the way for the revival of tourism in our border and IB areas," he added.
Kavinder highlighted that the decrease in cross-border tensions has restored confidence among tourists particularly after the abrogation of Article 370, leading to an increase in visitor numbers to the picturesque border regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He also pointed out that the government's focus on infrastructure development and promotional initiatives has further bolstered tourism prospects in these areas.
"The resurgence of tourism has not only rejuvenated the local economy but has also fostered a sense of normalcy and optimism among the residents of border areas. This positive trend underscores the efficacy of the Modi government's policies in ensuring the safety and prosperity of our border regions," he added.
The former Deputy Chief Minister also lauded the security forces for their unwavering dedication and service, acknowledging their pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in the region. He reiterated the BJP's commitment to the continued development and welfare of Jammu and Kashmir, with a special focus on harnessing the tourism potential of its border areas.
