| Assuring fairness poll chief says, come and vote | | | Early Times Report Jammu , April 14: Asserting that the coming elections in the state will be free and fair, Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, B R Sharma on Tuesday said that full arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of polls in the Jammu-Poonch constituency on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday afternoon, Sharma said that the campaigning for the first phase of parliamentary elections in the Jammu-Poonch constituency ended on 5 pm Tuesday. He said all arrangements have been finalized for the first phase of elections.
Sharma according to said that 21 candidates are in fray for the Jammu-Poonch constituency for which 2210 polling booths have been set-up. He said that EC has not received any serious complaint from the contesting candidates so far. However, he said in certain cases model code of conduct was violated and the EC took necessary action in this regard.
On this occasion, Sharma released the handbook of the parliamentary elections 2009.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General of police (IGP), Jammu, K Rajinderan said that full proof security arrangements have been made for the first phase of polling on Thursday. He said that no additional troops have been requested for the purpose.
