Devika Baishakhi Mela concludes, Over 60000 visit 3-day mela

Udhampur Apr 15- The 3-day long Devika Baisakhi mela concluded peacefully here today. Over 60,000 visitors, which include men, women and children attired in colourful dresses, thronged the mela site, during the mela days. People were seen interacting with each other, exchanging greeting besides offering prayers at Lord Shiva temple for the peace and prosperity. For the entertainment of visitors, the J&K Information Department organized cultural programmes based on Dogri folk lore and film shows depicting various traditional fairs and festivals being held in other parts of the district, besides places of tourist and historical interest. The circus show held by a private firm at the venue of mela and Jhullahs etc were the main attraction and entertainment for the visitors.
Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Health, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Handloom and Handicrafts had put up their stalls for the awareness of common masses about the schemes being sponsored by State and Central governments for the benefit of rural folk in particular.
The District Police had also setup a control room at the Mela site for the convenience and assistance of visitors, besides deployment of adequate police personnel to avoid any untoward incident. Metal detectors were also installed at entry routes of mela site to keep strict vigil on mischievous elements. The stalls put up by toy sellers, sweetmeats, Ice Cream, Pakora, Kachaloo and Golgappa Walas were also attracting large crowds and were seen enjoying the taste of these eatables.
Tehsildar Udhmapur Ashwani Kumar along with Probitioner Tehsildar Sapna Kotwal monitored the entire arrangements during mela with assistance of district police.
