Exhibition cum modeling show on JKs ethnic costumes at Zorawar Singh Auditorium
JAMMU, APRIL 15 (INFO)-Department of Tourism and Centre for History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh regions, University of Jammu organized an Exhibition cum Modeling Show with Super Model Club Jammu on ethnic costumes of Jammu and Kashmir at Zorawar Singh Auditorium here this evening. The dresses for the event were designed by National Institute Fashion Design.
The programme was organized with a view to revive and popularize the traditional dresses of the state specially among the youth .The event showcased the ethnic wear of the three regions and the significance of dresses worn during different occasions .There were scintillating performances by various artists exhibiting art and folk culture of the state, which was highly appreciated by the audiences. A supermodel contest was also organized in which various young models participated and demonstrated their talent and invited appreciation from the viewers. Mr Faisal Rafeeq was adjudged the winner of the contest.
The performances mesmerized the large audience present in the Auditorium and received applause
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest, whileas Secretary Tourism, Mrs Tanveer Jehan was guest of honour and Vice Chancellor University of Jammu was special invitee.
Director Tourism Jammu, Mr S M Sahni, eminent persons from Jammu University, senior officers from civil administration and large number of people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
Dogra Pop folk song and dance balled were performances by the students of Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu.
While interacting with the performances, Dr Kotwal said that the dresses alongwith the spoken languages were an essential component of cultural identity. He said that dress making has undergone various changes due to the passage of the time, but have still continued to be the identity of the communities, tribes, castes and sects. He said that dress making and modeling have assumed so much significance over a period of time that these have become the professions now a days. He said that these were the areas of career making for the youth who have a passion and liking in these.
Dr Kotwal and Mr Varun Sahni presented mementos to the organizers of the event and prizes among the winners of the different events.
