Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 19: Women Development Cell in collaboration with Career Counselling and Placement Cell of GDC Sidhra organised an awareness lecture on "Three New Criminal laws" with an endeavour to educate the students about new laws. The program was organised as per the directions received from Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K.
India replaced its colonial-era laws with a set of three new penal laws. The Indian Penal Code of 1860 is substituted by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS), the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973 gave way to the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 was replaced by the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
Vinod Kumar, JKAS, SDPO Nagrota was the resource person for today's event. Program began with welcome address by Dr. Anu Sharma.
Vinod Kumar elaborated these new laws and explained their technicalities. He also enumerated various sections of these new laws. He stressed on the fact that these new changes aim to make India's legal system more transparent, efficient and adaptable to the needs of contemporary society. He further said that these landmark reforms bring in new frameworks to tackle modern-day challenges such as cybercrime, organized crime and ensuring justice for victims of various offences. The session ended with a discussion round in which students and faculty members raised various queries and clarified their doubts regarding this topic.
At last Principal of the college, Dr. G.S Rakwal spoke on the occasion and stressed on the fact that students should have knowledge about legal reforms and for this they need to be acquainted with these new laws. He appreciated Sh. Vinod Kumar for insightful talk and thanked him for sparing his valuable time for delivering this awareness lecture.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Meesha Bhagat.
Program was organised by Dr. Anu Sharma, Convenor Women Development Cell with active support and coordination of Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Dr. Meesha Bhagat and Dr. Pooja Sharma.
All the faculty members were present during the event.
