| PDP dubs NC as proxy of Congress | | | Early TImes Report
Anantnag, Apr 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said the successive accords of the National Conference (NC) with Delhi’ s political leadership were always used by the party to grab power bartering, in the process, the State’s political and economic interests. Addressing a series of election rallies in Dooru assembly segment of Anantnag-Pulwama Parliamentary constituency today, Mehbooba said after having bartered Rai Shumari, autonomy and even the State’s resources and the honor and dignity of its people through successive accords with the Centre, the NC leadership has, through the January 2009 accord, now even mortgaged the party’s ideology and identity to the Congress leadership for the sake of power. Responding to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s latest statement that he and Rahul Gandhi were carrying forward the legacy of historic accords between their grand-parents and fathers, Mehbooba said Omar Abdullah while referring to Sheikh-Nehru, Indira-Abdullah and Rajiv-Farooq accords, perhaps deliberately gave a miss to NC-NDA accord where he was enjoying power with his BJP mentors. “Going by Omar Abdullah’s own account, for the lust of power NC has, instead of representing the regional aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, always worked as a protégé of Delhi’s political class in the State,” she said. Mehbooba said the infamous accords that Omar Abdullah is bragging of, stripped Jammu and Kashmir not only of its distinct identity, but snatched its natural and water resources as well in lieu of bringing the Abdullah’s to the seat of power. “And what a horrific fallout Rajiv-Farooq accord had when NC resorted to the worst ever rigging of polls in 1987, is there for everybody to see,” she said and added the portents of the lurking dangers emanating after the recent NC-Congress accord have already started pushing the State back into a vortex of political instability and economic deprivation. “As NC has always been a beneficiary of the uncertain political scenario, the party is again trying to create similar conditions in the State for its survival,” she said. Warning the Center of disastrous fallout if NC was allowed to use its traditional Goonda tactics to manipulate the ongoing Parliamentary polls in the State, the PDP President said the State Government has already started using strong-arm, suspicious and maneuvering tactics to influence the polls. She, however, said the conscious citizens of the State would not allow the NC to fiddle with their mandate. Mehbooba said contrary to the hollow sloganeering of successive NC regimes, the landmark initiatives taken by the PDP-led Coalition Government between 2002 and 2005 are being felt and seen both psychologically and physically. “Whether it was the relaxation in the security environment, opening of cross-LoC routes, development of new universities and colleges, beautification and infrastructure in Srinagar city, the signposts of our Government are visible in every nook and corner of the State,” she said. PDP leaders Peer Mohammad Hussain and Farooq Ahmad Indrabi also addressed the meetings.
