| Mehbooba takes Omar’s EVM wiggle to EC table | | | SALMAN Ahmed Jammu, Apr 15: Taking Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement on wrong side of the wit, Peoples Democratic Party has filed a complaint of Model Code of Conduct violation before the Election Commission. Addressing a rally with Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi in Vijaypur on Tuesday, Omar had wittingly said that only Congress button on the Electronic Voting Machine is effective while others have no relevance. Taking note of the newspaper report of Omar’s speech, the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has written to the Election Commission for cognizance. Mehbooba Mufti while talking to early times on phone said that such confusing statement has developed distrust among the masses and simply the violation of code of conduct set by selection commission of India, It is mandatory that election commissioner of India should take the Cognizance of the issue to develop trust among the electorates added Mehbooba. State President Bhartiya Janta Party Ashok Khajuria commenting on this matter said that the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in presence of important personality Rahul Gandhi is violation of code of conduct in real sense of which the authority conducting elections should take strong action to restore sense of confidence among the masses who were witnessing third generation accord summit of Gandhi and Abdullah families. Meanwhile it is pertinent to mention that during the election of upper house and in the Budget session held recently PDP and BJP has exhibited solidarity for several issues. Chief Electoral officer B.L. Sharma informed Early Times that a complaint has been receieved in this regard from the PDP and the necessary action should be taken in the course of due time as four phases of elections are still to go. Meanwhile, Chief Minister’s aide Devender Singh Rana has described as incorrect and misinterpreted, the news report that has appeared in a section of the media which has twisted the remark of the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah made in a lighter vein during his election rally at Vijaypur on Tuesday. In a statement, Mr. Rana said the Chief Minister has been misquoted and his statement has been reported out of context. Mr. Rana said the Chief Minister made no mention of the word ‘EVM’ and so any reference or link with the EVM is misplaced and misconceived. Rana said the Chief Minister conveyed to the gathering that only UPA under the leadership of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh had the capacity to recast the destiny of the state and all other political parties are bereft of any agenda for the welfare, peace and development of the state and the symbol of ‘Hand’ only has the power and strength to deliver change.
