Kavinder demands extension of Financial Assistance timeline for refugees facing documentation issues | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 20: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has urged the government to extend the deadline for disbursing financial assistance to displaced families from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Chhamb. He stressed that many eligible families have been unable to avail themselves of the ?5.5 lakh one-time financial assistance due to missing or incomplete documentation. In thie regard, a delegation led by Captain Yudhvir Singh, President of PoJK Non-Camp Displaced Persons (DP) Families of Chhamb 1971, met with Kavinder Gupta at the BJP Party Headquarters in Jammu. The delegation expressed grave concerns over the March 20, 2025 deadline, which has left many deserving families without support. They highlighted that despite repeated efforts, several displaced persons could not meet the documentary requirements, thereby missing out on the much-needed financial relief. Gupta acknowledged the plight of these families, emphasizing that their displacement was a historical tragedy that demanded compassionate governance. He urged the authorities to accept alternative records as valid proof to ensure that deserving families are not denied their rightful assistance. He reiterated that it was the Modi government that first recognized their sufferings and sanctioned financial aid to provide long-overdue justice to the affected families. Reaffirming the BJP-led government's commitment to inclusive governance, Kavinder assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the relevant authorities, advocating for an extension of the scheme's deadline. He stressed that bureaucratic hurdles should not deprive displaced families of the aid meant for their rehabilitation. The financial assistance scheme was introduced to provide relief to displaced families from PoJK (1947) and Chhamb (1965 and 1971). Recognizing the challenges in documentation, the government had already extended the scheme, ensuring more beneficiaries could avail the support. Given the persistent issues faced by many families, Kavinder strongly recommended another extension to prevent further injustice to the displaced community. He asked the J&K administration to act swiftly and sympathetically, ensuring that no family is left behind in receiving the assistance that is rightfully theirs. |
